Happy Hunger Games!

"Effie Trinket, District 12's escort, fresh from the Capitol with her scary white grin,  pinkish hair, and spring green suit...'Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor!'... Her pink hair must be a wig because her curls shifted slightly off-center since her encounter with Haymitch." - The Hunger Games

Teach Me How to Effie
  • Foundation, and lots of it folks. I bought the lightest possible foundation I could by: CG's trublend in Ivory (405). The people of the Capitol like to pound on the make-up, so in this case, more is better. I applied the first coat with my hands- let it dry - and applied the second with a foundation brush. I then went back in to cover up any areas that are more pink than others. This took the longest because I wanted a heavy, yet even, almost-white look. The goal is to cover everything: your skin, eyebrows, and lips.
  • Baby Powder & Mineral Makeup. To get an even more white look, I brushed over the foundation with a light mineral make-up mixed with baby powder.
  • Pastel Shadow. I used CG's Eye Trio in Firecracker (excluding the green) . I applied the pink with the applicator (this blends less than a brush, which you want) on my entire lid up to the eyebrows, extended it out to my hairline, and around my lower lashes. I used a darker purple shadow - Urban Decay's Last Kiss - to highlight the lid and around the lash area. Lastly, I used the white shadow from the trio to cover my inner-nose area and dusted it over my eyebrows.
  • Faux Lashes. To make my lashes stand out, I applied fake lashes. You can try any crazy lashes because the style of the Capitol is heavily exaggerated. I then lightly applied mascara to blend my natural lashes into the faux lashes and lightly brushed some on my bottom lashes, as well.
  • Lips. With the foundation on my lips, I used Cover Girl's Smoky Shadow Blast (Step 1: Pale Blue side) because there was no lip color like the one I was looking for. I applied it to my inner part of my lips, but not all the way to the corners(somewhat like a doll).
  • Wig. I had a pretty bad wig, but it got the job done. If you a looking for one, try to find a curly wig with a pink hue, or a white curly wig that you can dust pink. The soft chalk pastel technique worked really well to highlight the wig softly without using that sticky hair color spray they sell at Halloween stores. I pinned on a large flower towards the front that I had from my Carrie Bradshaw days.
Any fun, exaggerated style of makeup would be awesome to try! If you are doing this for Halloween and want better makeup, Mac will have great colors for to represent Ms. Effie Trinket!
